Philosophy
Please learn about our loudspeaker design concept. The main feature of this concept is strict reliance on scientific basis, engineering knowledge and research. Such approach is not common on the audio market. In this design concept marketing cannot influence technical decisions. At the beginning we have a cabinet. In our loudspeakers the cabinet shape always reflects the goals of acoustic design. We do not employ any decorative elements which could affect sound quality - no compromises are allowed here. In the first step of the design process we choose driver placement which provides optimum time alignement. Later on we design cabinet which follows the shape resulting from acoustic requirements. We always try to obtain time alignement with mechanical means and not with electrical crossover networks. Electrical means used to achieve time alignement are always accompanied by unwanted side effects degrading sound. Therefore we do not use designs with bass drivers placed on side walls. Cabinet walls are always thick and internal construction provides high stiffness. In general we rely on the bass-reflex principle, because in our opinion correctly tuned enclosure of this type provides good efficiency, good low frequency extension, low distortion, and most importantly ease of drive. In order to satisfy the demands of refined listeners, who are prepared to sacrifice bass power to achieve better quality, some of our loudspeakers may be used with closed reflex port, so that impulse response is improved. We try to improve the so called "wife acceptance factor" by exquisite finish with natural veneers and attention to detail. But of course we do not employ anything that could degrade sound. Choosing the drivers is a tedious and time consuming process. Thanks to wide ranging research and many measurements we noticed that the most popular drivers are not necessarily the best ones. Likewise the most recent transducers employing novel solutions sometimes fail to meet expectations. So neither using the most "trendy" transducers neither chasing the novelties is the right recipe for success. We always try to choose drivers so that they are best for a given configuration and work optimally together. We are not connected with any drive unit manufacturers and we do not manufacture any drive units ourselves. This gives us complete freedom too choose best components for our designs. All the drivers used by us are measured. Then they are chosen in accordance with their paramters and mutual compatibility. Of course the driver's sound is one of its most important "parameters". The crossover is the next important element. We do not work by a principle which requires emploment of one filter type for all our loudspeakers. Nevertheless whenever possible, we use first order crossovers providing smooth impedance curves. Time alignement is achieved with suitable cabinet shape. Crossover components are of premium quality. The following types are used: - baked air core and copper foil Jantzen inductors - Mills wirewound resistors in more expensive models in tweeter circuits - high power Caddock and Arcol resistors mounted on heatsinks where necessary, this way ensuring thermal stability and providing the user with possibility to listen at high volumes for long periods with neglegible compression and distorition resulting form heating up of crossover components. - polypropylene capacitors - with the exception of our cheapest designs we use Hovland Musicap capacitors (in the tweeter signal path). Cables and their routing is an important aspect. Cable type and quality is an important factor influencing sound quality, so we approach this technical issue with utmost care. Every loudspeaker is auditioned and measured before it is supplied to the customer. All these factors (and several others not mentioned here) lead to unique sound quality. Sound quality is the aim we persue in an almost obsessive manner. This quality is primarely based on extremely wide dynamics, clean reproduction of bass, detail, excellent impulse response, minimized coloration. All these features lead to realistic stereo imaging and soundstage depth. All our loudspeakres are manufactured with digitally controlled machines (CNC). Modern computer software is used in the process of cabinet and crossover design. We hope that you share our enthusiasm for our products, therefore we invite you cordially to make an audition! |
